Review: Chasing Red by Isabelle Ronin

Do you see this cover? Isn’t it amazing?! No need to say I just needed to pick up this book because of it!

Chasing Red got on my radar thanks to NetGalley. After the cover grabbed my intention, I went for the blurb and that grabbed my attention even further.
So a huge thanks to NetGalley, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and Isabelle Ronin to give me the opportunity to read and review this book!

When cynical straight-A college student Veronica “Red” Strafford gets kicked out of her apartment, notorious basketball player Caleb Lockhart offers her a place to stay. Intensely drawn to her, Caleb wants something for the first time in his life. But Veronica’s painful past makes trusting difficult, and her heart might just be the one thing Caleb can’t win.

They said she was going to be my ruin…then let her ruin me.

First off, it has to be said that this book is one of those amazing Wattpad-phenomenons. And just that is a reason to read this book!

My eyes roved over the tightly packed crowd. They reminded me of penguins huddled in the cold – on crack.

The first paragraph of it already had me laughing out loud, so I knew I was in for a fun ride. How right I was. The story drew me in completely. I felt the tension between Veronica and Caleb, the way they were building their trust towards each other, the hope that they can be better, have better, do better.
I honestly read this in – almost – one sitting. I had to sleep, okay? But, really. I flew through this book, loved the twists it had, loved all the romance that was added in both little and big ways.

The only flaw, for me, was that Caleb went from being a typical arrogant ass to insecure and lovey dovey way too fast for my liking. I would’ve loved it if he had more of an internal battle concerning his feelings, before owning up to them.
The same goes for Veronica – or Red – but more in a way that there’s some character development missing. She’s stuck in being insecure, afraid of risks and I wish that would’ve changed a bit more towards the end of this book.
On the upside, there’s a sequel so I’m dying to find out how both Caleb and Red are going to evolve!

Considering everything, I’m giving this book a 4/5!

This book is being published on September 5th, so pre-order your copy now! You can do this on, BookDepository or any other site you feel comfortable using. Oh, and I should add that the sequel is planned for November. So you won’t have to wait long to find out what happens next!

As for the munches, I’m adding an amazing banana milkshake to this. The sweetness of the story goes perfectly with it. Add to that those few pieces of popcorn with delicious caramel to represent the bursts of sexual tension… Perfect! And it was a really delicious milkshake by the way!

This eBook was provided to me through Netgalley. This is my honest review for which I am not being compensated in any way.

  2. I remember seeing this book as a suggestion on Wattpad every time I entered. But I never added it to my library because I thought it was too similar to a hundred and more other books on Wattpad. But I think I will add it to my TBR. Great review!
