Road Trip Book Haul!

Hi Munchworms!

As you know, I’ve been gone for a little while. I was supposed to be home yesterday, but somehow ended up back home on Thursday. Way too early, but the bad weather simply made us leave earlier… But still, time flew by! Those two weeks really did pass in the blink of an eye.
If I could time travel, I know I’d go back to the start of my road trip and do it all over again. I enjoyed it so much! Of course, I simply was long overdue for a decent vacation…

Anyway!

Yes, I’m back! Happier, more relaxed, with a little bit *coughs* of a book haul and some added tan, haha.

I know you guys must be most curious about the books I bought during my trip.
Let me start by saying that I bought way less than I first anticipated. Yes, I saw plenty of books that I wanted to buy. Problem? They were so expensive that I’d rather order them on BookDepository!
This might not be regular bookworm-behaviour because I’ve walked in at least ten bookstores without buying a thing, but… I can probably buy twice as many books with the money I saved by being stubborn!

At one point I did have a little splurge though. I went to an American bookstore – thank you for those, world – in Milano! And then suddenly stumbled upon a secondhand bookstore near our hotel in Milano as well. Talk about luck, haha!
So that’s the day I bought… nine books?

New books

The Demon Catchers of MilanOne Night in ItalyThe Book Thief
The PowerThe Green Mile

Secondhand books

The One Plus OneThe Perks of Being a WallflowerOliver TwistRomeo And Juliet (Giunti Classics)

I also ended up buying just one book in Venice!

The Pledge (The Pledge, #1)

Normally, that would’ve been it. Really. But then the bad weather came and we didn’t feel like being cooped up in our tent for the next couple of days. So… We took our stuff and left. Yup! Left!
We realized we were going to be home way too early and, honestly, we didn’t feel like that at all. Who would?! So, instead I used the magic puppy eyes and convinced my boyfriend to make a bit of a detour and head to the Netherlands. Rotterdam, to be specific.

We went there during the first half of this year as well and I stumbled upon the best bookstore ever. Donner! It has a huge amount of English books. Honestly, that was the biggest English section I had seen so far – at least, in a country where English isn’t the native language.

Let’s just say that I completely went overboard and used my birthday in the best way possible: by getting my boyfriend to buy me books. Sorry not sorry.

The Inquisition (Summoner, #2)Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles, #1)Alice Through the Zombie Glass (White Rabbit Chronicles, #2)The Queen of Zombie Hearts (White Rabbit Chronicles, #3)Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of VillainyThe Memory BookLittle Black Dresses, Little White LiesOn Writing: A Memoir Of The CraftDoctor Sleep (The Shining, #2)The Sin Eater's Daughter (The Sin Eater's Daughter, #1)The Sleeping Prince (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #2)The Scarecrow Queen (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #3)

And, munches? Yes! I ate so many wonderful dishes! I cannot even… Just thinking about it makes me want to go back, stat.

I will definitely use some of those dishes in future reviews, whenever I find something that fits perfectly. And for pictures of all the cities… Let’s just say you’ll have to keep your eyes open!

Honestly, I have more than 500 pictures to go over and I’ll have to find the time to do so… As soon as I’ve done that, there’ll be a little photo road trip for you guys!

So, what were you guys up to these past few weeks?

Kathy

  1. Those food pictures just made me hungry!

And awesome book haul!! You have so many great books. Stephen King’s On Writing is a book I like to recommend to people who want to be writers. It has a place of honor on my nonfiction/reference bookcase.

It sounds like you had a really nice time. I look forward to (hopefully) seeing more photos from your road trip.

    1. Haha, I wish I can go back immediately every time I see them myself.

Thank you! I don’t necessarily want to be a writer, but I do think the book might be an inspiration – or maybe motivation? – anyway.

I did! There will definitely be a post with more photos; I just have to find the time to go through them all, haha.

  2. Wow that is a huge bookhaul, so many wonderful books! I read The One Plus One and I quite liked that one! They are totally not my genre but I love the covers of the Melinda Salisbury books ! Gorgeous! I’ve never been to Rotterdam (or Milan) but it’s good to know you can make good deals there! Love seeing how you spent your holiday as a bookworm 😉

    1. For some reason I can’t end up with small book hauls, haha. If I do, I probably ended up with a ton of eARC’s to make up for it anyway. :’)
I have to admit, the Melinda Salisbury books were a giant part cover buys! I completely fell in love with those and decided to buy them because of that; liking the sound of the blurb was an added bonus reallly.. 🙂
Rotterdam is worth it, simply because of Donner and the Markthal, which has yummy food. From noodle soup to cupcakes and pies to fresh fruit and ice cream [cue those ice cream rolls I posted on Instagram]. Those are THE two places I’d revisit every month if I could. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed my post! 😀

    1. Haha, you’re welcome! I’ll have a more elaborate post on the road trip itself by the end of this week or maybe next week. Depends on how swamped I’m going to be with work. *Yuk.*
Hope so too! But I think I’ll have to focus on my ARC’s first.. I’ve collected eight during the time I was gone so I think it’s byebye Sequel September for me as well.. :’)

    2. Yup, 8! There isn’t any pressure for.. three of them, since those are through LibraryThing and have been released already, but I like reading those within the month, haha. [Mostly because they decide the winners of the current month’s batch on how many of the received books you’ve reviewed and I don’t want to miss out on any, haha.]
