Review: Kane by Sinclair Jayne

Hi Munchworms!

Kane (American Extreme Bull Riders Tour Book 6)I got this eBook through LibraryThing – God, I love that site – in exchange for a review. Of course, I’ve let it wait on my Kindle for about a month. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do that, right? But then, all of a sudden, I was completely in the mood for some hot romance!

Twice-buckled American Extreme Bull Riders tour world champion Kane Wilder is riding high at the top of his game, rolling in fame, adulation, women, and money. When he hits his hometown of Phoenix, he’s sure of another win. Nothing shakes his confidence and focus–until he comes face-to-face with his former friend and lover, Sky, holding the hand of a toddler with his eyes and trademarked dark curls and smile. Suddenly winning is about more than sticking his ride for eight seconds.

When one of her artworks is chosen for a world class hospital guild art auction, Sky Gordon thinks she’s finally going to make a name for herself artistically and cleanse her life and heart of Kane Wilder for good. But when Kane shows up at the gallery and learns the secret she’s kept, Sky realizes more’s at stake than just her pride and heart. Kane may be even more devastatingly sexy, but he doesn’t take no for an answer, and he plays to win at any cost.

Did you see that cover?! Admit it. If you see a cover like that, you know what to expect.
Did Kane deliver? Oh boy, he did.

Sinclair’s writing style immediately pulled me in completely. Before I knew it, I had written a quarter of the novel while I was supposed to be sleeping. I just couldn’t stop. Didn’t want to either. She just made you want more. More of Kane. More of Sky. More of everything.

“Daddy has a picture on him, Mommy,” Montana said as Kane went to the bathroom to change into his suit. “I want one too.”
Great.

But, especially more of Kane. I don’t know how many times I’ve said this but… Long hair? Tattoos? [I had to laugh out loud when I read that quote I put up here.] Bad ass? Well, count me in, people! Count. Me. In! But where is that long hair on the cover? I would’ve probably picked it up sooner, haha.
The descriptions used to picture this male specimen? Let’s just say that I had a bit of a “Let me get some fresh air”-moment once in a while. Not to mention certain scenes *coughs* with Sky.

“That’s because we’re Wilders. An acquired taste.”
“And, baby…” Kane put his hand on the small of her back “… this time you’re eating the whole gourmet meal.”

I enjoyed the story. I loved how Sky’s secret is incorporated beautifully – honestly, I was scared that it’d be neglected when I first started reading – instead of getting drowned out by the steamy romance. I enjoyed the way Sky and Kane had to find their way back together, trying to fix the things that went wrong in their past.

Yes, it’s a quick read. It’s a romance. It’s a beautiful novel when you want a breather, a quick novel to relax and stop thinking. Just enjoy the story. This novel had exactly what I needed when I started reading.

5 / 5!

I’m not even going to add munches. Imagine something spicy. And hot. And steamy.

  1. Nothing wrong with a bit of romance every once in a while… I used to read this genre a lot but then got proper fed up- it became so same! the characters, the scenes, the conflicts… but yeah, now I just pick up a romance every once in a while to get exactly that- a breather… a simple, entertaining, fast read!
    Great review…
Can’t go wrong with cowboys and men in kilts! XD

    1. Yep! I know my mom used to do the exact same thing. And then, all of a sudden, she started picking up my books because she needed something different and “not always the same”, haha.
I’ve always made sure to switch between genres a bit. Most of the time I’m switching between fantasy and contemporary; sometimes squeezing in something else entirely. I rarely read two books of the same genre in a row now that I think of it..
But books like these are definitely the perfect breather!

Haha, amen to that! Add the long hair and I’m soooold! 😀

  2. haha…I love your choice for munches. Yep, this definitely sounds like a typical steamy romance book, which sometimes a person just needs to read. Sometimes they’re ridiculous, sometimes they’re cheesy, and sometimes they are wonderfully steamy. No matter what though, they always seem to give you a nice escape from the world for a couple hours.

    1. I honestly considered just putting a picture of a ghost pepper or something, but that would’ve been a bit too much, haha.
Yes!! Some people actually look down on novels like this, but I quite enjoy them once in a while. Especially as it’s getting colder and darker, those are the kind of novels that I like to fly through.
