TTT: Books I can’t believe I read – will read

TTT

Hi Munchworms!

This week’s topic for That Artsy Reader Girl‘s Top Ten Tuesday is:
“Books I can’t believe I read”

I decided to put a little twist on this week’s topic and go withΒ Books recommended to me that I normally wouldn’t pick up.

The first five are books I already read, the last five are books that I have yet to read!

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of VillainyDeath Note, Vol. 1: Boredom (Death Note, #1)Milk and HoneyThe ShiningThe PowerItM TrainEmmaThe Book Thief

Are these books you’d usually pick up or not?
What’s a book recommended to you that was completely out of your favorite genre/genres?

Yep

    1. Same for Illuminae!
My boyfriend actually got me Death Note for my birthday so I felt.. pretty much obliged to read it asap, haha. It was also my first time ever reading manga. I liked it, but.. not to say that I’d ever reread it. I think.

  1. Illuminae was SO outside of my usual comfort zone, I was scared and really intimidated to read it, yet I’m glad I did. It was a crazy, craaaaaaazy book haha. Great choices! πŸ˜€

    1. Seeee! They should at least make sure we don’t have to do weird stuff like that with books. Or make sure it isn’t such a giant monster of a book because that seriously was NOT easy being cramped in a corner and I was refusing to wait until I got home, haha.

    1. Milk & Honey has some beautiful poems, that’s for sure! I still have to read her second collection but I’m looking forward to it. πŸ™‚
I’ve heard so much about The Book Thief; the expectations are growing, haha.

    1. You’re welcome!

Some of his books are definitely intimidating when it comes to page-count, haha. IT is on my TBR and I’m hoping to read it this year but.. We’ll see. The Green Mile is definitely one I want to read though; I love that movie!

    1. I’ve evaded film adaptions for ages when it concerns King’s books – except for The Green Mile. I usually wouldn’t go for those genres either since I’m a huge pussy but I did like his writing quite a lot so I’m willing to sacrifice some sleep, haha. πŸ˜›
Haven’t seen the movie yet either! I will once I’ve read the book though. πŸ™‚

    1. I, honest to God, still haven’t read the blurb of that one! People tell me I should read it AND the title? I need to read it. Just hoping I’ll actually like it as well, haha. But that has to be, right? With a title like that?!

  2. Great list! I’ve heard so many good things about Illuminae that I need to pick it up at some point and I’m currently reading IT after loving the film adaptation last year – I’m not usually the biggest fan of King’s writing but I’m not hating it so far. The Power and Emma are both on my TBR and I loved The Book Thief – I hope you enjoy it when you get to it!

    1. Thank you!

Illuminae is so outside of my usual genres and it’s actually the first ever scifi I genuinely like! The unique format helped with that, of course, haha.
I’ve only read The Shining and it freaked me out. I’m such a scaredy cat, you have no idea. But I do love his writing though, which is why I now have a pile of King-books – including IT – that I’ll try to read this year. I already know I have a ton of sleepless nights ahead of me but.. oh well.. Sacrifices!
      Thank you!! πŸ˜€

    1. I only read The Shining so far but I have a whole pile of King-books at home I’d like to get to at some point.
Death Note was pretty much my introduction to manga. Liked it, but.. not liked it? I don’t know. I’m still not sure if I want to branch out more towards manga or not.

The Power is way too intriguing not to read, I guess! And Emma Watson used it in her book club so I’m going to use that for one of my bingo prompts, haha. Illuminae was so out of my usual genres but the format made me way too curious about it and I ended up liking it! First ever scifi novel I like, whoop.

  3. I wasn’t sure I’d like Illuminae, but it turned out okay for me (I actually ended up liking the sequel more). And Because You Love To Hate Me kinda caught my eye too.

    1. I honestly missed AIDAN in the sequel! I had expected to see a lot more of that AI than we did.

Because You Love To Hate Me disappointed me a bit. There were some good stories in there but others were simply.. meh.
