Do you remember back when I signed up to get my O.W.L.’s a while back? It’s time to collect my N.E.W.T.’s as well! As if I could ever refuse a Harry Potter-themed reading challenge, right? If you want to check out the original announcement post, you can just go here and listen / watch the original video by Book Roast.
The important thing to mention first is that I can only do the subjects for which I got an O.W.L. This made me realize I never made a wrap-up for that one but I DID remember I got all O.W.L.’s so that’s that, right?! I really checked but I simply didn’t feel like making that an entire part of this post so.. yeah.. I’m lazy. Sue me.
To continue my magical education, I first had to decide what career path I’d want to take and… Well… I’d love to go with a career as an Auror! That means I have to get an O or E for the following subjects: Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Herbology and Charms. Let’s take a look at my TBR for those!
All covers link back to Goodreads, so feel free to check them out!
A: Has a name of a color in the title [Out of the Blue – Sophie Cameron]
E: Read a book with a male lead character [A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman]
O: Book over 350 pages long [One Day in December – Josie Silver (EARC)]
DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
A: Read a last book in a series [Library of Souls #3 – Ransom Riggs]
E: Read a foiled book [Legendary – Stephanie Garber]
O: Book with word “dark” in the title or series name [The Subtle Knife #2 – Philip Pullman]
A: Book with a grey cover [Hollow City #2 – Ransom Riggs]
E: Book from an author you haven’t read anything of before [The Lion Tamer Who Lost – Louise Beech (ARC)]
O: Read a book set in a kingdom / with royals [Twice Dead – Caitlin Seal (EARC)]
A: Book with a green cover [Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell]
E: Book with illustrations [Kitchen Princess – Miyuki Kobayashi]
O: Book with air, light, sun or water in the title [Northern Lights #1 – Philip Pullman]

E: A book with a cover that charmed you [Harshville – Olivia Wildenstein (EARC)]
O: A book that you think will leave a mark [My Whole Truth – Mischa Thrace (EARC)]
I’m making it a bit difficult for myself since I can’t read the E / O book if I haven’t read the A / E book and by adding some series that’ll be.. even more hard than it already is. Oh well – it’s a known fact I love a challenge!
All other subjects and their prompts are the following:
I’ve added books to most of the prompts but I don’t know how far I’ll get with these… If I even get started on them, that is. Time will tell!
A: Book set in the past [Macbeth – Shakespeare]
E: One of the most ancient books on your TBR [Mansfield Park – Jane Austen]
O: Book translated from another language [The Girl on Paper – Guillaume Musso]

O: Book that’s not first in a series [The Scarecrow Queen #3 – Melinda Salisbury]
A: Stars on the cover [The Wicked Deep – Shea Ernshaw]
E: “Sky” in the title
O: Story that’s set on a different planet / world
Funny how getting an O on Astronomy isn’t even an options since I don’t own one book with “Sky” in the title..
CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES
A: Animal on the cover [Batman: Nightwalker – Marie Lu]
E: Book under 160 pages [Romeo and Juliet – Shakespeare]
O: Includes dragons in any way [The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien]
A: Set in the future [The Power – Naomi Alderman]
E: Book under 200 pages [Under the Eye of the Clock – Christopher Nolan]
O: Read a mythology book
HISTORY OF MAGIC
A: Book that you think would fit right in at the Hogwarts Library [Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them]
E: Read a book published at least 5 years ago [Jenna & Jonah’s Fauxmance – Emily Franklin]
O: A book that’s at least 400 pages [The Husband’s Secret – Liane Moriarty]
A: Book written by one of your favorite authors [The Language of Thorns – Leigh Bardugo]
E: Read a biography [M Train – Patti Smyth]
O: Read a retelling [Dorothy Must Die! – Danielle Paige]
That’s quite the TBR, isn’t it?! Good thing I’m definitely not planning on ticking them all off. I’m going to focus on my Auror-career and if I have time left to read some other books, even better. If not, so be it!
Are you participating in this madness? You ready for your magical education?!
Anyone want to take a bet on how many books I’ll actually tick off?
