Do you remember back when I signed up to get my O.W.L.’s a while back? It’s time to collect my N.E.W.T.’s as well! As if I could ever refuse a Harry Potter-themed reading challenge, right? If you want to check out the original announcement post, you can just go here and listen / watch the original video by Book Roast.
The important thing to mention first is that I can only do the subjects for which I got an O.W.L. This made me realize I never made a wrap-up for that one but I DID remember I got all O.W.L.’s so that’s that, right?! I really checked but I simply didn’t feel like making that an entire part of this post so.. yeah.. I’m lazy. Sue me.
To continue my magical education, I first had to decide what career path I’d want to take and… Well… I’d love to go with a career as an Auror! That means I have to get an O or E for the following subjects: Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Herbology and Charms. Let’s take a look at my TBR for those!
All covers link back to Goodreads, so feel free to check them out!
POTIONS
A: Has a name of a color in the title [Out of the Blue – Sophie Cameron]
E: Read a book with a male lead character [A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman]

HERBOLOGY

O: Book with air, light, sun or water in the title [Northern Lights #1 – Philip Pullman]
CHARMS

E: A book with a cover that charmed you [Harshville – Olivia Wildenstein (EARC)]
O: A book that you think will leave a mark [My Whole Truth – Mischa Thrace (EARC)]
I’m making it a bit difficult for myself since I can’t read the E / O book if I haven’t read the A / E book and by adding some series that’ll be.. even more hard than it already is. Oh well – it’s a known fact I love a challenge!
All other subjects and their prompts are the following:
I’ve added books to most of the prompts but I don’t know how far I’ll get with these… If I even get started on them, that is. Time will tell!
ANCIENT RUNES
A: Book set in the past [Macbeth – Shakespeare]
E: One of the most ancient books on your TBR [Mansfield Park – Jane Austen]
O: Book translated from another language [The Girl on Paper – Guillaume Musso]

ASTRONOMY
A: Stars on the cover [The Wicked Deep – Shea Ernshaw]
E: “Sky” in the title
O: Story that’s set on a different planet / world
Funny how getting an O on Astronomy isn’t even an options since I don’t own one book with “Sky” in the title..

E: Book under 160 pages [Romeo and Juliet – Shakespeare]
O: Includes dragons in any way [The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien]

MUGGLE STUDIES
A: Book written by one of your favorite authors [The Language of Thorns – Leigh Bardugo]
E: Read a biography [M Train – Patti Smyth]
O: Read a retelling [Dorothy Must Die! – Danielle Paige]
That’s quite the TBR, isn’t it?! Good thing I’m definitely not planning on ticking them all off. I’m going to focus on my Auror-career and if I have time left to read some other books, even better. If not, so be it!
Wow that is a lot of books! I was inspired by your post but since I didn’t do my OWLs, I’m going to do that one first and do NEWTs in my own time. But I’m super excited! I have my TBR all ready and I can’t wait to dive in! Good luck!

Ooooh good job that I didn’t want to follow my OWLs retake with the NEWTs because I read books in subjects I mostly wouldn’t want to continue doing lol

Good luck with your TBR!! 🙂 I really want to join too, but I’m undecided, as I’m a) pretty late and b) didn’t take the OWL’s 😅

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Legendary! I wasn’t a huge fan of Caraval but I’ve heard Legendary is waaaay better. And have you read Fangirl before? If not, I’m super excited to hear your thoughts on that one. I liked it a lot, though I thought the first half was very slow.

I honestly have no idea what the career paths are or what you need for them, welp. I just picked my 5 favourite subjects and I’m aiming for an Outstanding in all of them, and if I manage to read anything more than that, then awesome.
Out of the Blue sounds so good, I’m really excited to see what you think!
I see you’re reading the entire His Dark Materials trilogy! I was meaning to re-read it because I think a lot of it went over my head as a kid…
I have exactly one book with “Sky” in the title that I own and haven’t read, so uh, I guess I’m reading that one? (Unless Skywalker counts :P)
