With all the creepy vibes this month – admit it, there’ve been a lot of Halloween-related posts going around! – I started thinking about the things that freak me out most. Not in general, but when reading a book or watching a movie. I know I’m a pussy – that’s something that’ll never change – so this might be quite the predictable post. Should I have watched / read more horror, this probably would be more elaborate, more specific and more unique but.. still.. I’m curious about your answers as well so I’m still doing it!
Today’s topic is supposed to be “Villains” and I am going with “Things In Movies/Books That Freak Me Out” – which is kind of related since those things are freaking evil villains in my eyes, okay?
CREEPY KIDS
Those are definitely high on my list of things that freak me out. Whether it’s in a movie or described in a book, it honestly doesn’t matter. They always look so innocent at first and then scare the crap out of me – every single time. I don’t even know why I’m not immediately closing my eyes as soon as a kid shows up in a horror movie. You’d think I’ve learned my lesson by now..
SPIDERS
This cannot be a surprise, right? I’m no fan of spiders. I can handle the little ones – not that I’d touch them though – but.. the ones used in certain movies? No, thank you, sir. Goodbye. I’m mostly looking at Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for this one. I was 10 when I first saw that movie. Nightmares for weeks!
As for in books? The most recent example – without a doubt – is Hunting Prince Dracula. I wasn’t warned at all and suddenly there’s this.. overload of hairy, wiggling spiders and I just couldn’t. I couldn’t, okay? I’m still getting goosebumps just thinking about it. And I stick with my point: I’d love a spiders-trigger warning from now on, haha.
SNAKES
Not a surprise either, right? When there’s spiders mentioned, snakes soon follow. Okay, not exactly and I’m happy it isn’t like that too. Most of the time, I can handle snakes. It depends on how and how many and what exactly’s going on.
When they’re all over a character, wrapping themselves around arms and legs and necks.. That’s when I’m ready to close my eyes and stop reading or watching. A snake like the basilisk in Harry Potter isn’t a problem though.
CORPSES
It doesn’t even matter if they’re actually corpses or animated corpses / zombies. They freak me out when described in a certain eery and dark way. The books that pop to mind immediately? Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper-series of course! But then again, there are simply very explicit descriptions of organ-removal happening and.. those definitely add to me freaking out quite a bit.
Actual zombies though? No, thank you! That’s when I’m out. I haven’t read any books with those but seen some movies and I just.. I don’t even know how I need to write this down. I can’t handle them. I’m a pussy. Sue me. Yes, this means I’ve avoided anything to do with The Walking Dead. I’m not going there.
CREEPY CLOWNS
Okay, I know there are plenty of people who hate all these things and clowns is definitely one of the more common freak-outs as well, but I just can’t help it? At least I’m not afraid of regular clowns? Only the creepy ones. They’re just.. well.. creepy?
So let’s all laugh with how I’m reading IT this month and plan on watching the movie afterwards. That’ll be fun.. At least, it’ll be fun for my boyfriend seeing me freak out..
I just watched the It movie today… that clown, omg…
I’m also terrified of creepy children and snakes. Can’t even watch snakes on nature documentaries 😀

Not gonna lie, just seeing the trailer for IT gave me nightmares… you couldn’t pay me to watch the movie or read the book. *shudder* And spiders…no thanks!

I haven’t even seen the trailer yet and now I don’t even know whether or not I want to, haha.. :’)

Creepy kids have got to be one of my favorite spooky themes. They’re so awful, but I love it. :’) Clowns, too — and dolls!

You’re. Weird.
But I knew that already and love you for it. ❤

I can’t believe that you put The Grudge up there!!! That movie terrified me, among others. Earliest memories are Jeepers Creepers, Night of the Living Dead, and Chucky. I am still afraid of dolls today. And this is coming from someone who enjoys watching horror haha

It was the creepiest kid I could think of even though I haven’t even seen the movie, haha! Oh lord, Chucky. Yeah no THANK YOU. I already get the creeps if I enter an old person’s home and there are china dolls. First thought being “Okay, how fast can I get out of here?”. Ughh.
Well, it’s not like someone who enjoys horror is automatically prohibited of being freaked out by certain things! 😛

I’m so scared of spiders! I don’t like looking at them in real life, on TV, or in books.

I have a very low tolerance for horror as well. I absolutely hate zombies! I get the chills just thinking about them. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

I hate clowns and spiders as well. That scene in Hunting Prince Dracula creeped me out a little as well. Surprisingly though the clown in IT didn’t bother me.

Right?!
The clown in the book doesn’t overly bother me as well, but still gives me the creeps sometimes. King is very good at creeping me out with the eyes-descriptions once in a while. Apart from that it’s more the clown’s actions than anything else. Pretty sure that clown will have a different – and more freaking out – effect should I watch the movie though.

Yay actually seeing it with your own eyes makes it more creepy.

I can’t deal with spiders either, I’m seriously arachnophobic! I can’t watch that scene in the Chamber of Secrets movie, I have to hide when it comes on!

Such a cool twist on the list! Creepy kids also freak me out. Have you seen A Tale of Two Sisters? (Although they aren’t creepy per se…well, not all the time.)

Oh man, zombies freak me the f out. Especially the kind of ‘zombies’ that are not really undead, but just changed by a virus, like in I Am Legend (man those freak me out so much)

Any kind of zombies for me, to be honest but.. yeah.. those are even worse, haha.

Urgh yes though, all of these creep me out too!
My nephew has taken to standing in weird places in the house and just staring like one of those creepy kids, it’s taking me everything not to run away haha.

Ugh ugh ugh all of these things freak me out SO much haha, though the clowns maybe a little less than the rest of this list. Still, I can’t handle spiders or snakes at all, ugh they’re the worst. I never watch horror movies and read too many horror books for that reason haha 🙂

I totally relate to that. Although sometimes I have this weird urge to scare myself and end up doing just that though? Like, Sunday evening I had the BRILLIANT idea to watch the first episode of The Haunting of Hill House and I regretted it within fifteen minutes.. xD I’m such a wuss.. [Boyfriend had the best laugh in ages though..]
Clowns definitely less because I’m only freaked by creepy ones and.. I tend to avoid those so yay. 😛
