SYNOPSIS
Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the years before, when she lived and made love with her husband, Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now…

I know my readers are from all over the world, but since I really want to boost some local events.. I’m still going to go ahead with my newest feature! In saying that, from now on I’ll be sharing some get-togethers hosted by Waterstones Brussels once in a while. This event – the round table discussion for The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood – is the first one!
Even though I won’t be present myself – I’m on holiday then, whoopsies – I really believe it’s worth sharing anyway. So, if you live in Belgium and haven’t read The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood yet, I’d say.. Put the date in your calendars – Sunday August 18 at 15h00!
I’ll be trying to read the book myself by then so I can hopefully share my review around the time of the discussion as well!
If you’re afraid you’ll forget about the event, be sure to save it on Facebook, put yourself as interested – or even better, as present – and definitely let me know all about it afterwards!
I would love to go but I’m over in Scotland 😀 Enjoy your holiday 🙂
