WWW Wednesday

Yesterday was one big crap-fest of a day, but I survived. I didn’t get the job I was so excited about only last week. Then the show of my all-time favorite band got canceled due to the Corona-virus. I get why, it just sucks that it had to come at the same time as my rejection mail. To top it all of, my other half’s car still isn’t driving so I keep having to sacrifice my own and.. the lack of transport, the feeling of not being able to go and do as I please.. I hate it. Safe to say it hasn’t been an awesome couple of days lately but that’s okay. Sometimes you need bad days to appreciate the good ones even more and I know those are coming. Eventually!

Anyway – time to get into that reading update you’re here for!

As always, covers link back to the Goodreads-page, so feel free to check them out!

Current read

Legendary (Caraval, #2)Yes No Maybe So

I.. I.. still haven’t finished either Legendary or Yes No Maybe So. Even worse.. I haven’t even read in those books since last week! I simply wasn’t feeling like it so I picked up some books that were calling out to me. Mood-reading is a necessity when you’re in a less happy mental state after all.

Finished reading

Of Curses and Kisses (St. Rosetta's Academy, #1)Single Dad's Waitress (Main Street Single Dads #1)

Finished these two! Technically, at the time of writing this, I only finished Of Curses and Kisses but I know I’ll be finishing Single Dad’s Waitress before falling asleep later so.. Yup! I might not have made any progress on Legendary and Yes No Maybe So but I did read and that’s something.

Reading next

I’ll just keep posting these two here in the hope of ever actually reading them? Also planning on reading the second book on my March TBR so fingers crossed for The Machines of Theda!

The Opposite of Falling ApartRed HoodThe Machines of Theda (The Monster of Selkirk, #3)

  1. Sorry to hear that you haven’t been having the best couple of days. Such a bummer about not getting the job and your favorite band’s show getting cancelled. I’ve been on the fence about getting Yes No Maybe So. I do like Becky Albertalli though. How did you like Of Curses and Kisses? I’ve been seeing it a lot and I’m interested in checking it out. I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads. 🙂

    1. It’s a bummer but with the whole virus-thing going on right now, I’m actually relieved the government is taking a lot of measures at this point. People are going insane over here.

I still haven’t picked up Yes No Maybe So! I’m even thinking about taking it off my current reads for a bit and start another contemporary instead. I don’t want to force myself into finishing it. Of Curses and Kisses was an okay one but I had some issues with it as well. I think I only gave it two stars in the end? One of the main characters got on my nerves, I had questions after I finished reading and the predictability annoyed me. Basically the “bad”-part of my review in a nutshell.

Thank you! Hope you’re readign some good books as well. 🙂

  2. Hey, you may not have been given the job you applied for last week, but that just means a job that’s more in line with you and your capabilities is sure to be coming soon. I believe great things are coming.

And I completely understand the not having transportation problem. I went two years without a car because my fiance and I worked at the same place on the same shift. I finally replaced my car at the end of last year because I had to temporarily move to another shift. It’s such a liberating feeling to know that I can just go out to my car and go wherever I need to.

I’m starting House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas today, so I’m hoping that it will be a good read. But I’m also planning on reading a few books from my Middle Grade March TBR this weekend as well, so hopefully it will be a good week end/weekend of reading.

    1. Exactly! I really was pissed when I got rejected but that same night I found a job opening at a library and I jumped at it. I’m actually hoping WAY more to get that job, haha. It’s only three days each week but I don’t care. I know I’ll love it.

Oh boo! I can definitely see how it was a relief, haha. My other half now has a scooter so I got my car back! Although he’ll occasionally take off with my car once in a while but as long as I know in advance, my brain will be fine. I hope.

Ooh, since your comment was three days ago – oops – how is it so far? Or was it, since you’re a bit of a reading train sometimes. 😀

    2. Well, I’m sending all the positive vibes into the world that I can for this library job for you. It sounds great.

Umm…well I’m 300 pages into the 800 page book…but I’ve set it aside so I can try to rearrange my blog and focus on signal boosting new and upcoming releases from authors who can really use the boost with all of their events being canceled. No offense to SJM, but I think she’s okay with my voice not adding to the hype of her stories. (The book is good so far, but I’m feeling like she uses a lot of the same character types and plot bits over and over through her various series). So, I’ll get back to it after I help out other authors for a while. It only took me 2 days to read 300 pages, so it won’t take long to finish it when I get back around to it.

    3. Thank you! I sure can use them. 🙂

Whoop! 300 pages is goood. But I definitely understand why you’d put it aside for now. There are more important things going on than investing time in hyping already well-known authors while there are so many people struggling with their business / new books right now.. Definitely applauding you for that, Dani. You go!

    4. *sends more positive library vibes your way*

Yeah, I was aiming for reading ~150 pages a day so I could finish the book in like 5 days, but I’m glad that I shifted my focus. The book is good, and I don’t think putting it aside for a few weeks is going to make me lose interest or forget what has happened, so it’s all fine.

Thanks, Kathy! I just want to be helpful.

  3. I know exactly how you feel not having your car to drive. For a couple of years I didn’t have a car and it sucked having to rely on everyone else to take me places I needed to go. I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last night and I plan to start Nights in Rodanthe as well as Fix Her Up next.

    1. Gah! I can’t imagine this lasting more than a month to be honest. It’s also how I worked to pay off my car for three years – on my own – and now *my* car isn’t for me to use. Pretty sure that’s what bothers me most, haha.

I really need to read The Seven Husbands as well! I own a copy but historical fiction is a genre I rarely pick up. I do hope to read Song of Achilles next month though!
I remember reading Fix Her Up but.. don’t remember my thoughts. Brain-problems, haha..

    2. I hope you don’t have to go more than a month without your car.

For me Evelyn Hugo didn’t feel like historical fiction. Yes she’s telling you about her past but idk how to explain it. It just didn’t read as historical fiction does to me. I don’t typically read historical books either. I haven’t read Song of Achilles.

    3. Hm. I’ll have to up it on my TBR then if it doesn’t really feel like his fic. I read Circe a while back and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would so it only makes sense to dive into more of Miller’s work, haha.

  4. Sometimes you just have to pick up some books on the side to keep you going and that’s okay! This week I read Bound to Steele which was an interesting romance. I’m meandering through King of Scars and feeling okay about it. California is raining off and on so my weekend plans outside of work may just be sitting inside. Happy Wednesday!

    1. That’s definitely true! It always feels weird to ignore books I already started though, haha.
I really should read more of Leigh Bardugo’s books. I own plenty of them but have barely read any..
Oooh, sounds like a fun weekend! Enjoy your reading time!
